I have faced the same problem. To answer the original question: I changed the root password to test and now i cannot login in phpmyadmin page in xampp.

I am using xampp server for php development and want to edit the php.ini file; The web directory is the home of all of your application's public and static files. My xampp control panel is not showing in the desktop (windows 10), but can only up the servers through the shortcut (minimized option in the task bar).

I just followed the below steps step 1: I looked for help here and here which basically says changed config.inc.php file in. I tried many ways to send a mail from xampp localhost, but since xampp hasn't ssl certificate, my email request blocked by gmail or similar smtp service providers. Apache is running just fine on port 80 and 443, but mysql is not starting.
Moved (cut/paste) all the files in c:\xampp\mysql\data to desired backup location.
It is also where the front controllers live.
