However, i received this back. The sample consisted of all students at the age of 13 years or older. They're both equally valid in professional writing. Neither implies stopping in any manner.
If for an infant, you might need to say 6 months, 18 months, etc. I'm trying to come up with terms to describe the various age ranges for children up through teenager and i'm stuck trying to describe someone who's in the age range of about 6 through. I am not a native speaker. Unless one is filling out a form to register an infant for something, the number alone would be adequate.

My question is, is it formal or informal to use y/o as an abbreviation of years old in british english? At the time of reaching the age he was already performing this function. Is 18, 35, 70, etc. That kid is one and a half years old.
The counting in twenties is a celtic practice that influenced english for a time, and also french (quatre vingt dix = four twenties and ten = 90).
Writing “at the age of five” is more formal, while “at age five” is more technical or direct.
